Pipe - Sandustry Wiki
Learn how Pipes connect Pumps and Liquid Vents in Sandustry, transport Water through a continuous network, and support fluid automation.
Overview
The Pipe is fluid infrastructure that connects Pumps to Liquid Vents and transports liquids between those connected components. In a Water system, a continuous Pipe network carries Water collected by a Pump to the Liquid Vent that releases it at the destination.
This page reflects the official Wiki and current Early Access gameplay evidence checked on August 17, 2026. It does not assign Pipes an unverified maximum length, capacity, flow rate, or component ratio.

How to Obtain
The checked current sources identify Pipe as a player-placed infrastructure item but do not provide a stable build cost or permanent unlock order. Follow the Objectives and Research available in your current Early Access build rather than relying on an older Demo cost or sequence.
Pipes are removed with the Pipe Remover tool rather than the normal removal behavior used for other player-placed items.
How It Works
| Stage | Verified Behavior |
|---|---|
| Source | Water or another supported non-Lava liquid reaches a Pump. |
| Input | The Pump collects the liquid and sends it into attached Pipes. |
| Connection | A continuous Pipe network connects the Pump to a Liquid Vent. |
| Output | The Liquid Vent deposits the transported liquid at the destination. |
The verified Water chain is:
Water source → Pump → continuous Pipe network → Liquid Vent → destination
Pipes are completely non-solid. They can occupy the same square as another block and do not interact with other blocks, machines, or pixels except Pumps and Liquid Vents. The Pipe provides the connection; it does not collect source liquid or release it at the destination by itself.
Used For
- Fluid transportation: Connect the input and output components of a liquid network.
- Water automation: Carry Water from a source Pump toward a reservoir or wetting area.
- Factory infrastructure: Route liquid connections through squares also occupied by other blocks.
A Pipe network transports available liquid; it does not create Water or guarantee that the source and destination can support the factory’s demand.
Related Buildings
- Pump — collects supported liquid from the source and sends it into attached Pipes.
- Liquid Vent — receives liquid from the Pipe and deposits it at the destination.
- Filter — handles material sorting in a separate logistics system; a basic Filter is not a Pipe connection or fluid output.
Related Resources
- Water — a verified liquid transported through the Pump, Pipe, and Liquid Vent chain.
The official Pipe page also supports other liquids except Lava. This page does not list additional liquids without a separate entity-level source review.
Tips and Notes
- Trace a failed Water route in order: source liquid, Pump input, continuous Pipe connection, Liquid Vent output, then destination space.
- A visible Pump and Liquid Vent do not prove that every Pipe segment between them is connected.
- Pipes can be hidden behind other player-placed blocks. Equip Pipe, Pump, Liquid Vent, or Pipe Remover to reveal hidden Pipes.
- Use Pipe Remover when a Pipe segment needs to be removed.
- The checked official sources do not describe mixed-liquid output priority consistently. Keep liquid types in separate networks when predictable output matters.
- Connected components determine whether liquid moves; the Pipe alone does not prove source supply or open output space.
FAQ
What does Pipe do in Sandustry?
Pipe connects Pumps to Liquid Vents and transfers supported liquid between them. It is the connection layer in the fluid transport system.
How do Pipes connect to Pumps?
Run a continuous Pipe from the Pump to a Liquid Vent. The Pump provides the input, the Pipe carries the liquid through the connection, and the Liquid Vent provides the output.
How do Pipes move Water?
A Pump picks up Water from a valid source and sends it into attached Pipes. A continuous Pipe network carries that Water to a Liquid Vent, which deposits it at the destination.
Can Pipes transport Lava?
No. The official Pipe and Pump pages exclude Lava from the liquids this network can transport.
Why can I not see or remove a Pipe?
Another block can hide a Pipe placed in the same square. Equip Pipe, Pump, Liquid Vent, or Pipe Remover to reveal hidden Pipes, and use Pipe Remover to remove Pipe segments.
